The first acts are now ready (more to be revealed soon):
LES FRERES SMITH (FR)
Both scene and dance floor are going to be jammed when the 12 musicians of Les Freres Smith welcome you to breathless Fela Kuti inspired afrobeat. Les Freres Smith - the Smith brothers - is a musical collective based in Paris who for more than a decade has been specialised in magnificent afrobeat with added groovy vibes inspired by the ethio jazz. They have shared the stage with legends like Tony Allen, Kutiman and Franck Biyong and cemented their name as one of afrobeat’s most explosive live bands.

Anna & Elizabeth (US)
"An audacious step forward ... subtly pushing at what folk music sounds like and what it can do" wrote Pitchfork about the spellbinding duo of vocalist Elizabeth LaPrelle and multi-instrumentalist Anna Roberts-Gevalt. Creating intimate stories and impressionistic atmospheres, Anna & Elizabeth are drawing from a deep well of Appalachian folk music and ancient ballads. But they also use experimental approaches to conjure up a highly personal take on folk music traditions, as can be heard on their latest album ‘The Invisible Comes to Us’ (Smithsonian Folkways Recordings).

Heather Leigh (US)
While growing up in the American South and playing the pedal steel guitar, the music of Heather Leigh is far from the country & western, the instrument is mainly associated with. A bold explorer of her instrument, she has been labelled "pedal steel guitar player from hell". And yet, on her latest record, ‘Throne’, raw nocturnal power is balanced with ghostly ballads of yearning and sensuality. For her performance on Spectacle, she is joined by John Hannon (Liberez) on violin and electronics.

Charlemagne Palestine (US)
A seminal figure in American avantgarde music, composer, visual artist, and performer, Charlemagne Palestine is globally renowned for his loud, percussive, cascading drones on piano and carillon bells in epic-length concerts. He is among the most enigmatic personalities to have emerged fro the New York vanguard art scene of the 1960s and ‘70s. He is often regarded as a peer of minimalist composers such as Terry Riley and LaMonte Young. Palestine will perform an improvised organ concert at Sankt Johannes Church.
Listen: https://youtu.be/bulibjyaQ0s
Eartheater (US)
Eartheater (Alexandra Drewchin) distills Foley-filled digital production, a three-octave vocal range, and classical composition into works suspended between obsessively detailed sonic tapestries and almost recklessly romantic and gestural electronica. Her live performances are viscerally emotive and driven by a fearless physical investment and gut-wrenching vocal sincerity. At ALICE Eartheater will perform in an exclusive duo set-up with harpist Marilu Donovan.

Monsieur Doumani (CY)
Multi-award winning group Monsieur Doumani was formed in 2011 by Antonis Antoniou (tzouras), Angelos Ionas (guitar) and Demetris Yiasemides (trombone, flute) with a common interest in playing contemporary arrangements of roots music from Cyprus. Since then the trio has expanded their vocabulary - forming a style distinctively their own. Their latest album, ‘Angathin’ (2018), was featured on several lists of the best world music albums of the year. Likewise they have gained a reputation as a stunning live act.

Nazar (AO)
Nazar's musical world centres around the extreme violence, injustice and omnipresence of a repressive state during and after the 27-year Angolan civil war, while exploring hope, resilience and pride in a country torn apart by conflict. Nazar released his debut for Hyperdub last year the haunting and beautiful EP “Enclave”. Nazar calls his sound "rough kuduro”: Harsh and dramatic sounds capture the noise and brutality of war, while a general feeling of unease permeates throughout the the music, interrupted by kuduro-like dance rhythms signaling better worlds.

Ipek Yolu
Ipek Yolu is the Turkish name for The Silk Road - an ancient network of trade routes that connected the East and West. Blending heavy electronic cumbia grooves, saz riffs, and surf guitar in a multi cultural orgie of Southern American rhythms, Anatolic psychedelic folk and 60’s psych rock, Ipek Yolu creates a sound that is strongly danceable and all their own. With members from groups such as Hudna, Junglelyd and AddisAbabaBand, Ipek Yolu with play one of their first concerts at ALICE Spectacle.

Sofie Birch
Rich collages of ambient, dreams and electronic hardware. The Copenhagen-based composer Sofie Birch recalls blissful melodies and synth tones within swirling harmonies that subtle softens the ear. Her debut album “Doldreams” (Infinte Waves, 2017) fulfills her style of sensibilities with her experimental streak. With a soundscape of flourishing strings, soft vocal, chimes, birds, creaks and a lingering synth line paving her way through organic symphonies. Sofie Birch will perform at Sankt Johannes Church.

Xenia Xamanek
Danish composer and sound artist Xenia Xamanek has created a name for herself with her expressive style and releases on Copenhagen-based labels Infinite Waves and Anyines, and wired the Danish underground scene for electronic music. Having studied the rules of composition and been formally trained on saxophone, Xenia Xamanek is an artist who is appealed to ignore all rules in order to approach her idiosyncratic style of music.

Anna & Elizabeth (US)
"An audacious step forward ... subtly pushing at what folk music sounds like and what it can do" skrev Pitchfork om den amerikanske duo Anna & Elizabeth, som hurtigt har vundet ry som nogle af de mest personlige fornyere af folkemusikkens traditioner.

Heather Leigh (US)

Charlemagne Palestine (US)

Eartheater (US)

Xenia Xamanek
