Den prisvindende dokumentarfilm “The Invisible Hands” er historien om bandet, der voksede ud af Alan Bishops (Sun City Girls, The Dwarfs of East Agouza أقزام شرق العجوزة) møde med tre unge egyptiske musikere i Cairo kort efter oprøret i 2011. I samarbejde med DEDI - The Danish-Egyptian Dialogue Institute og CPH:DOX, præsenterer ALICE en helt særlig aften med filmvisning og koncert.

Da den libanesisk-amerikanske musiker og etnolog Alan Bishop (Alvarius B, Sun City Girls, SUBLIME FREQUENCIES og The Dwarfs of East Agouza أقزام شرق العجوزة) tog til Cairo kort efter oprøret i 2011, indgik han i et samarbejde med tre unge egyptiske musikere, som skulle hjælpe ham med at oversætte hans 30 år gamle sange til arabisk. Ud af samarbejdet med Cherif El Masri, Aya Hemeda og Adham Zidan opstod ganske uventet The Invisible Hands - الأيادى الخفية. Året efter indspillede og udgav bandet debuten “The Invisible Hands / El Ayadi El Khafeyya” (Abduction Records, 2012) - et dobbeltalbum med engelske versioner af sangene på den ene side og arabiske versioner på den anden.
I hænderne på The Invisible Hands kommer Bishops gamle sange til deres ret, som de er svøbt i støvet blues, psykedeliske folk rock-arrangementer og længselsfulde vokalharmonier. Gruppen skaber et på én gang forunderligt og dragende spændingsfelt mellem forskellige sprog og steder, hvor de skæver 3 årtier tilbage og puster nyt liv i de falmede sange, ved at bringe dem ind i en nutidig kontekst og give teksterne en ny, frigørende mening.

Dokumentarfilmen “The Invisible Hands” (Marina Gioti, 2017), som udspiller sig mellem de to afgørende egyptiske valg der markerede perioden efter Det Arabiske Forår, er altså historien om bandet, der voksede ud af Alan Bishops samarbejde med de tre unge musikere. Struktureret omkring syrede, flygtige arkivklip, reportage fra demonstrationer, øvelokalescener, absurde samtaler og Bishops poetiske dagbogsfortællinger, sidestiller filmen på tragikomisk vis den ophedede politiske situation med skabelsen af gruppens musik. Filmen vandt den 10e Giuseppe Becce Award for Music på Berlinale - Berlin International Film Festival.
I samarbejde med DEDI - The Danish Egyptian Dialogue Institute og CPH:DOX, er ALICE cph stolte af at præsentere en visning af dokumentarfilmen “The Invisible Hands” efterfulgt af koncert med bandet.
