Tunesiens banga-ritueller møder rå postpunk og industriel elektronik, når Ifriqiyya Electrique rammer Alice med nyt album i bagagen. Den herboende tuneser Nuri varmer op.

Det tunesisk/franske projekt Ifriqiyya Electrique er svært at beskrive, men let at lade sig rive med af. Musikken trækker på animistiske ritualer og tranceskabende rytmer hentet fra ældgamle traditioner i Sahara, men blander disse med industrial-klingende elektronik og postpunk. Resultatet kan bedst beskrives som et sonisk ritual, der transporterer publikum til en bevidsthedsudvidende tilstand.

‘Banga’ kalder Ifriqiyya Electrique musikken. Banga er navnet på et tunesisk ritual, men banga betyder også ‘høj lyd’, og er således betegnende for bandets ofte vilde lydbillede. Det fik man at opleve, da bandet gav en intens koncert på Global i 2017. Samme år udsendte bandet den roste plade ‘Rûwâhîne’ på anerkendte Glitterbeat. Og netop Glitterbeat står også bag bandets nye plade, ‘Laylet El Booree’, der udkommer til april.

Bandet opstod, da de to musikere Gianna Greco og François R. Cambuzat, der tidligere bl.a. har samarbejdet med no wave-ikonet Lydia Lunch, rejste til den tunesiske ørken. Egentlig med det formål at dokumentere banga-ritualerne. Snart opstod dog en interesse i et mere direkte engagement. Med tre medlemmer fra den traditionelle banga-community - Tarek Sultan, Yahia Chouchen og Youssef Ghazala - indspillede de det første album. På det nye album er gruppen udvidet med Fatma Chebbi på vokal og percussion. Sammen er de klar til at indtage Alice med den post-industrielle banga!

Nuri
Den herboende tuneser Nuri varmer op. Nuri er percussionist og producer, der med en blanding af organisk slagtøj, polyrytmiske forløb og bastung elektronik bygger bro mellem Tunesiens afrikanske rødder og en groovy afrofuturisme, som live får en ekstra dimension gennem Nuris tribale masker, der skaber en stemning af mystiske ritualer. Nuri er et varmt live-navn, der har delt scene med navne som Dengue Dengue Dengue og Clap Clap. Og han vil stensikkert varme publikum godt op til Ifriqiyya Electriques banga-ritualer.
